WSW GTW 6

GTW-06 enters Wupperfeld station on a late afternoon service towards Vohwinkel. The Schwebebahn is one of the most unique and magnificent expressions of public transport in Germany, which also gives an insight in the visionary use of technology in the late 19th century. The Light-Rail system connects Oberbarmen in the east and Vohwinkel in the west of Wuppertal(City). It's known for it's unusual alignment right aboth river Wupper for most of the line's lengh. Construction began in 1898 and the first segment was opened to  public in march 1901. Today, the system reaches rush hour headways as low as 3 minutes. During off peak hours and on weekends the line also serves as the city's main tourist attraction.

The vehicle which can be seen aboth is a 1972 type GTW buildt by M.A.N. By now, the 1972 series is the only type of stock in service. But it's star is falling as the units are faceing replacement by 2014 type GTWs entering service from mid-2016 onward.
