Description

A few days ago, I went to Sylt. But instead of visiting the beach and the completeley overpriced town of Westerland, I decided to exit the train at Morsum and walked back to the island's southeastern end, which also is the western end of the so called "Hindenburgdamm". Now what's so special about that? First it's the trains: the only non- ferrry connection to the mainland is by rail. And DB earns quite a lot of cash operating a shuttle service for car owners to the island. During peak times every 30 minutes! Second is the dam itself: The longest of it's kind in germany. Opened in 1927 the 11.3km long dam offers a 8.1km route through a vast intertidal sea-zone (Called Wattenmeer).
218-341 and it's sister unit 497 lead one of the evening shuttle trains towards Westerland. I will upload a few more pictures focusing on the dam itself in the near future.
Half a minute earlier (Same train)
